Following the historic promise made by 189 world leaders at the
United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000, the Nigeria Network of
NGOs (NNNGO) launched a MDGs campaign in 2005 to follow through on
the Nigerian Governments commitments on the Millennium Declaration
and its agreement to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by
2015. Since then, the Network has run major campaigns with its
members across the nation to inspire citizens take action in support
of the MDGs.
From 2006 till date, the Network has ran series of campaigns such as
the stand up, take action, show your love for the MDGs including
media appearances and policy engagements on the MDGs at both the
state and national level.
The Network in 2006 mobilized over 8,000 people to stand up and
speak out against poverty and in 2007 a total of 641,720 to make up
the 1.9 million people nationally who stood up and spoke out against
poverty in order to hold governments accountable to their MDGs
promises.
The Network and its members are convinced that “we are the first
generation that can put an end to extreme poverty around the world,
and we refuse to miss this opportunity!”
The work of the campaign is managed by a campaigns team hosted by
the Nigeria Network of NGOs in partnership with the United Nations
Millennium Campaign (UNMC). |
