| The Ibadan North Community Partnership came out of a project
conducted by the Nigeria Network of NGOs with the support of the
Department for International Development (DFID). We are made up of
residents, interested individuals, members of community groups and
representatives from the local council.
We realised that to attract development into the local area we
would need to come together with a common voice, which is what the
Partnership would be striving to achieve from inception. It became
obvious that no one was going to wave a magic wand and that hard work
would be needed for us to succeed.
The first thing that had to be established was to draw up an
action plan. One of the outcomes of that plan would be an active
community participation by all Stakeholders in the development of
Yemetu community and residents of Ibadan North Local Government. This
would mark a significant first step forward for us as local people to
stand up, be counted, and take control of our own environment.
Three main objectives of the partnership are:
- Encouraging community development and helping build the
communities capacity to help itself
- Providing better access to and ensuring that opportunities exist for
employment, education and training for all
- And improving the quality of life of residents by the development of
a safer, cleaner and healthier community living in a better-designed
environment.
There are opportunities to get involved in all the objectives
identified in the action plan. All members of the community are
welcome. Whether your interests are focused on education, the
environment, health or young people, you are very welcome join in
with the community work.
