The British Council organised a 3-Day Summit at Planet 1 Entertainment, Maryland, Lagos, on the Roles of Effective Taxation in Sustainable Development: A Shared Responsibility For All Stakeholders. The major goal of the workshop was to initiate a process for effective taxation that is based on stable and predictable tax regime, which equally guarantees sustainable development and attainment of the MDGs

As part of ongoing efforts to immortalize Alhaja Kudirat Abiola as a woman who fought to see her husband’s dream of democracy in Nigeria realized as a result of the military annulment of June 12, 1993, general elections, a Lagos-based NGO named after her, Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND) rolled out the drums to remind women that the battle to actualize Beijing’s Declaration to have 30% representation reserved for women in governance should be intensified. www.kind.org, kindnigeria@yahoo.com. 01-Aug, 2007
Justice, Development & Peace Commission (JDPC) Lagos, with support from DFID, held a public presentation of the draft report of the findings of a research project on: “Measuring of Constituency Offices on the Constituents.” JDPC carried out the research project aimed at evaluating the impact of elected Legislators and their constituency offices at the four levels of representation (Ward Councillors at the LGA level, State House of Assembly on their constituents in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria. The research sampled the 20 LGA’s (including the 37 LCDA’s) within the 3 Senatorial Districts of Nigeria’s most populous city-state. In all, 10,000 residents of Lagos State were sampled, at the rate of 500 adults per LGA. constituencies.
