NNNGO at the 4th
Lagos Economic Summit (Ehingbeti
2008)
The Lagos State
Government, in
conjunction with the
Lagos Economic Summit
Group on Tuesday, 22nd
April, declared open the
4th Economic Summit with
the theme "Transforming
Lagos into Africa's
Model Mega City."
This year’s edition
provided a forum for
government to identify
and engage with
prospective solution
providers and investors
who can assist the
government in its goals
to make Lagos Africa's
model City.
Making presentations in
behalf of the Nigeria
Network of NGOs, Ms.
Yemisi Ransome-Kuti
while speaking on the
sub theme: The
Environment, Water and
Sanitation noted the
need for sustained
partnerships between
governments and civil
society and sustained
donor resource input
Ransome-Kuti a
Stakeholder/CSO Advisor
World Bank 2nd National
Urban Reform Project
also explained that the
environment is the
greatest challenge of
the 21st century while
also listing issues such
as uncoordinated
approach to water laws
administration and lack
of clear and coherent
regulation as some of
the challenges facing
water and sanitation in
Lagos State.
In her closing remarks
Yemisi strongly
advocated for
transparency,
accountability improved
service delivery and
strengthening of the
participatory process
and its
institutionalization.
