14th NNNGO Annual Conference, 3 December 2014/ Shaping discussions on NGO regulation

Lagos, Nigeria, November 18, 2014/– An accountable and transparent sector is the current priority of the Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO) and its members. 232 participants from the 6 geo-political zones of the country, policy makers as well as representatives of business and civil society will discuss the theme “CSO Legitimacy, Transparency and Accountability: The role of government and civil society” at the 14th Annual Conference of NNNGO on 3rd December 2014 in Lagos.

 

In keynote addresses, conversations with thought leaders, panel discussions and roundtables, participants will exchange experiences on best practices as well as best policies for regulating and standardizing the work of Not-for-Profit organizations in Nigeria.

 

The “14th Annual Conference” will shed a spotlight on the current trends in civil society regulation across the world and expand knowledge of civil society organizations and governments on CSO regulations, best practices and innovations in order to spark a healthy debate on improving the regulatory environment for Nigerian CSOs.

 

Keynote address at the Conference will be delivered by Dr. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, Honorable Minister of National Planning, with presentations by Ambassador Maria Leissner, Secretary General, Community of Democracies and Emerson Sykes, Legal Associate at the International Council for Not-for-Profit Law.

 

Panel discussions at the event will feature leadership of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Federal Inland Revenue Service, and Special Control Unit on Money Laundering of the EFCC as well as Non-State Actors.

 

Oyebisi Babatunde Oluseyi, Executive Director, Nigeria Network of NGOs says: “This year’s Conference offers exceptionally rich content particularly around efforts by the National Assembly to regulate the 3rd sector. Our intention this year is to fill the gap between NGO regulation as conceived by the House of Representatives and best practices. We want to identify concrete implementation possibilities on a harmonized accountability framework for Nigerian NGOs”.
